The FIRST Global 2024 Robotics Challenge: The Great Meetup of Innovation in Athens
From 26 to 29 September 2024, Athens will host the FIRST Global Challenge 2024, one of the most important international robotics competitions. Students from more than 190 countries will join forces in the city that has hosted both the ancient and modern Olympic Games to participate in a competition that promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
This year’s competition theme, entitled “Feeding the Future”, encourages teams to focus on the challenges of sustainable food production. Participants are asked to design and build a robot that will operate in a simulated environment where they will have to manage global water, energy and food resources to support a sustainable food system. In addition, they will have the opportunity to take part in the New Technology Experience, a challenge that allows them to explore and develop new technologies to address food challenges in their communities.
The 2024 FIRST Global Challenge in Athens has the support of the Greek government, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, as well as local scientific organizations such as MellonLab. The event is expected to foster international cooperation and understanding among young people, while promoting the use of technology as a tool to solve global challenges and achieve a more sustainable future.
The 2024 FIRST Global Challenge is more than just a robotics competition. It is an opportunity for young people from around the world to come together, exchange ideas, and develop skills that will make them the leaders of tomorrow. Athens will become the centre of this global effort for a better world, welcoming the hopes and dreams of the new generation for a future of innovation and collaboration.
